A Comedic take on the Mother of the Bride experience

YES! Finally it's happened, thanks goodness some lovely girl (hopefully) has agreed to take your son off your hands or some fabulous young man is about to take over taxi duties for your daughter. That's right your offspring are getting married.

You get caught up in the heady rush of helping to choose the wedding gown, the bridesmaids colour scheme' the men's  suits, and then you can dedicate some well-earned time pouring over the magazines and websites for the all-important Mother of the Bride / Groom dress.

But that's when it hits you , these dresses are gorgeous, no doubt just as expensive as the bridal dress, but hey it's only money ( thank god great Aunt Maud left you that antique broach in her will- now's the time to cash it in!) but the models are all a size 8 and have a collective age of 20! What happens if you are over a size 12 and the wrong side of 45??????

Everyone starts saying things like " ooh you'll be the person most people are looking at...after the bride of course," what seemed like an enjoyable experience turns into a nightmare. You smile and nod politely and mutter things like “oh it doesn't matter about me", "I'll find something closer to the time” or the favorite “just a few more pounds to shift first". All the while panic is taking hold, you are DEFINATELY shedding weight but most likely from the loss of water due to continual perspiration!

You look in the mirror “get a grip" you say to yourself, what's the worst that can happen? And that's when you venture into a boutique. All your nightmares start to come true, unlike good old marks and sparks, this salesperson has actually looked you in the eye and said good morning, not only that, she has asked if You need any help? Do you look like you need help? (indignant mental pause....)" well yes please" (the words are out of your mouth before you can stop them)

And so it begins, the very pleasant assistant gently points you towards some things you might like to try, she Sheppard’s you into the fitting room and pretends not to notice the stretch marks and leg stubble! And my god she was right, that draping really does look good, that colour is amazing on you, Bolero jackets are a revelation, your waist hasn't looked that small in years, and best of all you can keep Aunt Maud’s broach ( god rest her soul).

You leave the store feeling amazing, what on earth was all the worry about? Bring it on.......

For a pleasant boutique experience Any Occasion in Tunbridge Wells is a must. They are there to help you find the right outfit for you, at the right price in the right colour.  Put yourself in their hands and see what happens! You never know you might just surprise yourself!
